The Way of the Godly
Last night, I ended up staying up later than usual because I got caught chatting with an old friend online, someone I hardly contact nowadays. My relationship with this particular person bears a special place in my life because, due to his unfortunate experiences, he hates christians, but he still considers me a friend despite my religious background. He reminds me of that debate in my mind that has never found a resolute answer: How do christians profess their faith to their non-christian friends? How do christians share their faith without losing their friends? Can christians share the truth of salvation, keep a friendship, and not compromise their faith?
When I was younger, I would hear the stories of how other christians would reveal their faith without preaching, simply by living a godly life and allowing daily godly actions to serve as their testimony of faith. The power of a living a godly life to reveal Christ. The simple act seemed too easy, and yet it awed me by its effectiveness. People say that others are constantly watching you because they know that you are a christian. Whether their motive is to find a fault in your professed “christianity,” or to observe what makes you different from the rest of the ungodly fools out there, the result is the same: your godly life speaks volumes.
In my own encounters, two experiences have allowed me to test this theory. And the beauty of this way of testimony is that it facilitates a nonconfrontational debate between the godly and ungodly, which is well-suited for those delicate relationships that you would like to keep instead of burning bridges. Thus, I have created my own term to describe this code: The Way of the Godly. ← (WHAT IS THE KANJI FOR THIS?)
The samurai have lived by their own code: bu-shi-ido.
- Bu: The martial (military) art and strategy (tactics). Bravery. Heroism.
- Shi: A samurai. A man. A gentleman.
- Dou: A way. A road. A course. A means. A field. A subject. A moral principle. Morals; michi.
Just as the samurai live by bushido, children of God should live by their own set of standards.
The Way of the Godly
I would love to put this on a shirt and rock it. Z, what is the link to that Japanese guy who makes and sells shirts with christian Japanese kanji? Perhaps we could make a special request for this.

this post reminds me of the website i am about to launch. very good post. yeah it also reminds me of my friend allen (no not me I’m allan haha) he’s an agnostic that I began to befriend and talk to God about. He listened because i was a cool guy and not deceived as he thought many other christians were. but yeah there’s a reason God didn’t call us out of the world. It is to show the world there is a way out
The christian group Avalon sang a song called “In, Not Of,” which describes how christians should be in the world, but not of it.
